Since ancient times, Shakudani Stone has been a symbolic stone for people in Fukui.
Since mining began about 1,500 years ago, the stone has been transformed from time to time as the times have changed, supporting people's daily lives and building Fukui's unique culture.
The ancient stone culture of Echizen Fukui has been rejuvenated and repurposed into tableware, offering a blend of practical utility and aesthetic beauty for daily use.
Currently Shakudani stone which has been in people's life for long time, is not mined anymore.
Now we developed "Reviving Shakudani Stone, Fukui Gem" so that we can preserve unique stone culture to future.
We collected unused Shakudani stones left in old houses and reused them as tableware.
We hope that the newly revitalized Shakudani stone will once again live in people's lives.
